April 2014
The band is pleased to welcome Andrew Hicks to the euphonium section who joins the ever talented
Lisa Brill.  Don Logie has moved to the trombone section and the band is now busy placing players in
oher areas.  The Spring Brass Band Festival took place at Blackpool and the band gave a spirited
performance of the test piece Alderley Edge, but on this occasion had to settle for the consolation of
remaining in the contest to fight again next year, and so managed to avoid relagation to the Senior
Cup contest.

March 2014
After just a few weeks preparation with the band, new MD, Alan Duiguid, led the band to a 'podium
finish' at the London and Southern Counties Area contest.  The adjudicators Graham Jones &
Stephen Roberts announced that the 2nd and 3rd placings were equally matched but on this occasion
Redbridge had to settle for 3rd and so misses out on an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall.  Its
performance was well received with a huge cheer, plus many great comments shared afterwards.

The band is now working towards the next contest; the Spring Brass Band Festival – The Grand
Shield, held at Blackpool at the end of April.

Work on our first concert under Alan's leadership has now started and will be held at St Gabriel’s
church, Wanstead - our regular venue in Redbridge.

February 2014
The band is pleased to welcome Alan Duguid to the band as Musical Director.  Alan's first
engagement with the band will be the London and Southern Counties Area contest, which he won with
Regent Brass Band last year in 2013. Intensive preparation is now under way.

January 2014
Butlins Mineworkers Championship at Skegness again sees the band deliver a high quality
programme against excellent competition.  With the Test Piece, Energy (Robert Simpson) in one
contest and an entertainment concert the folling day, adjudicators David Read MBE & Derek
Broadbent, and  Ian Porthouse & Derek Southcott (Entertainment), decided this contest wasn't to be a
winning affair for the band.

This was sadly the last official engagement as MD for the band's long standing conductor Jeremy
Wise.  Jeremy is taking a step back due to work commitments but looks forward to working with the
band again in the future as a guest conductor.
Jeremy joined the band in April 2008 and in the following years, lead the band to 3 wins at the London
and Southern Counties (LSC) Area contest, scooped the Butlins 2009 title, 3 top 5 placings at the
Grand Shield contest in Blackpool, 4th place at the All England Masters in 2008, and has
masterminded a whole series of exciting projects with the band, including 2013's Autumn series with
three world class brass soloists.

Under his baton the band became the first LSC area competitor at the prestigious Brass in Concert
contest held at Gateshead (two years running), thanks largely to his innovative programmes at the
Butlins contests.  Drumbone, Mr Sandman and Bolero were just a few of our "greatest hits!"
